Abstract: In recent years, China has carried out a number of strategies and initiatives in clinical medicine and achieved good results. In order to investigate the clinical research status and competitiveness of China, the research articles, clinical trials, and medical products were comprehensively analyzed. The competitiveness of each part in the medical industry chain was analyzed independently. As results, the number of clinical research articles in China has reached the second place in 2018, while the number of clinical trials have reached the third place of all countries in the world. However, there are obvious gaps between China and developed countries due to the insufficiency of systematic clinical research, high-quality breakthrough with global impact, new drugs with independent intellectual property, international clinical guidance led by Chinese institutes. In future, the policy makers should make strategies to find pathways for transformation and stimulating scientific innovation and achievements transformation in the industrial chain.
