Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on mental health of the healthcare workers

  • The healthcare workers (HCWs) are not only heroes in harm's way during COVID-19 pandemic, but also have to face the higher risk of infection of SARS-CoV-2 virus, to experience more stress and challenges from their working time prolongation and working overload, and to sustain burnout and mental health distress. This article reviews current studies on mental health of HCWs during COVID-19 pandemic, and finds common mental problems including anxiety, depression, insomnia, stress reactions and so on. And several prevention and intervention approaches for the physical and mental health of HCWs are recommended, such as reform of management procedures, psychological/social support, resilience, and circadian rhythms, and emotional management.
