Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of miraDry microwave therapy and negative pressure suction curettage in the treatment of bromhidrosis. Methods 95 patients with bromhidrosis who were treated in the Department of Plastic Surgery, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University were enrolled. The patients were randomly divided into two groups. The treatment group (n=48) was treated with miraDry microwave therapy, while the control group (n=47) was treated with negative pressure suction and curettage. The efficacy and complications of the two groups were compared after 1-year follow-up. Results The effective rate was 95.83% (46/48) in the treatment group and 97.87% (46/47) in the control group. The recurrence rate was 4.35% (2/46) in the treatment group and 2.17% (1/46) in the control group. The two groups had no significant difference in the effective rate and recurrence rate. The postoperative complications included hematoma and skin necrosis in the surgical area. There was no complication in the treatment group, and the complication rate in the control group was 12.77% (6/47, one had hematoma, one had skin necrosis, and four had skin scar hyperplasia). There was a significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion The miraDry microwave treatment and negative pressure suction scraping technique have excellent therapeutic effects in treating axillary osmidrosis. Compared to the negative pressure suction scraping technique, the miraDry microwave treatment device has a lower incidence of complications and is safer.
