| Abstract:Klotho gene is closely related to the aging of human. Klotho knockout mice may appear similar manifestations of human aging, including renal fibrosis. Further studies show that Klotho protein has a variety of biological functions, such as anti-oxidation, anti-apoptosis, anti-aging, cardiovascular protection and anti-fibrosis. The level of Klotho in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) decreases markedly, illustrating its important role on protection of kidney. This article reviewed role of Klotho on kidney protection through epigenetics, physiological function, and mechanisms in CKD. |
